Computing and understanding magnetic exchange with quantum chemistry
-
12 November 2025
11:00 AM - The lectures will take place at Kotlářská, lecture room F1.
Nikolay Bogdanov
Dr. Bogdanov is an expert in applying quantum chemistry and other ab-initio methods to solid-state magnetic systems, in particular to materials with strong spin-orbit coupling. These are of long-term interest also in our department, mainly from the effective-model perspective, and the visit of Dr. Bogdanov may serve as a basis for establishing a collaboration focusing on the ab-initio approaches. Despite his relatively young age, Dr. Bogdanov has made seminal contributions to the above field. His home institution - MPI-FKF Stuttgart - is not a university, therefore it is not listed in university rankings, but it is well recognized as one of the leading scientific institutions for solid state research in Europe.
