Laser-Driven Innovations at INESC TEC: Exploring Applications in LIBS, Spectral Imaging, and Sensor Technology

Laser technologies have revolutionized analytical methodologies, offering unprecedented precision and versatility across various scientific domains. At INESC TEC, we develop new technological solutions for optical sensors and imaging systems by combining different optical techniques such as interferometry, polarimetry, spectroscopy, and optical manipulation, utilizing devices like lasers, optical fibers and waveguides. This approach has led to the creation of a diversity of innovative sensing principles and devices. In this lecture, we will present representative examples of successful innovations, ranging from new industrial tools for online characterization and sorting of materials to novel methods for biomedical diagnostics and environmental monitoring.
